Slightly adjusted healyonar did the trick for me
Boss Battle: Xel – Duelyst
I wish we can have an area to replay old bosses. So much better than playing practice mode when trying out new deck strategies. I really liked the boss that teleported a few weeks ago. That was really fun. CPG please…
I didn’t say the perfect AI needed to give me a run for my money. I did say that idea wouldn’t work any better than this one with all the current bugs, like using Spiral Technique on a healing mystic or the inability to play around sarlac and sinister silhuoette. I don’t think that is asking for perfection of artificial intelligence.
Rancour, self heal, buffs and Grove lion did it for me. Ridiculous how easily it dies to its original sprite.
Basically the reason for my initial rage with boss battles. Since then they have changed a lot (at least they seem to) as I was able to win with my regular SC deck for a couple of months.
This boss took some thinking (and some “screw this”), but I came to conclusion that if I basically have to fight against a Shadowdancer than I have to outdance him. So I went with kinda aggressive Aby heal/steal deck (thankfully now I have cards for it):
[Boss]MTozMjMsMzozMTMsMzozMTgsMzozMTksMzozMjQsMjozMzAsMjozNDEsMjoyMDA1MiwzOjIwMDU5LDM6MjAwNjEsMzoyMDEzMSwzOjIwMjAxLDM6MjAyMjYsMzoyMDI0MywzOjMwMDMw
Part of the trick, IMO, is that this boss is very passive (which can be seen on the replay when I made a mistake & moved in the range of Shadow Watcher).
the boss is very passive, it wont even attack with its minions if it isnt important. i beat it with a grow deck, just plopped down a kollosus and marched it over. 2 smacks later it was dead (though i only had 1 hp left and would have died if it used minions that DIDNT have forcefield)
This is probably the only time Corporal Cadence is good…

here’s a hint, he stands in shadow creep
Trying the boss out now, and this is the first time I’ve thought about redirecting the input about the boss back to those who designed it:
- How much did you guys play test this one in it’s final reiteration?
- What did YOU guys think of your own boss here?
- What did you intend to accomplish with this boss design?
- Did you beat your boss? What was the deck archetype you ran with to do so?
I’m gonna keep trying, and will edit or post upon completion. As of now, this isn’t fun. The only current input I have at the moment is something I brought up before in that it feels that no consideration is given to what the real health start is in these matchups. On turn 1 it’s 2/25 vs 1/30, yes, but by turn 2 you have 4 mana to work with and will probably be closer to 2/15 vs 1/30 still.
Also have a simple question for you : what are you trying to achieve ?
- just beat the boss, no matter what and get the orb
- beat the boss with a specific deck
- beat the boss and have fun
… I think these 3 are different and mutually exclusive
If your answer is #1, you may need to spend 600 Spirit to craft 3xDarkfire Sacrifice and 3xShadowDancer and go for an easy kill (just dump any decent card around and open with DFS on Sarlac + summon SD). It may seem a waste of Spirit but these are useful if one day you play Abyssian.
Edit : corrected DFS
Just beat the boss, don’t really want to invest spirit in order to do so
How many of the 6 aforementioned cards do you have ?
0 DF ritual (i have 2 darkfire sacrifices if that’s what you mean) and 1 SD, gonna try chakkrams and horror busters since you always get damaged on boss’s turn and HB can turn sarlacs into something useful.
Good luck, you gonna need patience, and may waste a lot of time … more than the time you will need to get the 300 Spirit for the 3 missing cards
Took out chakkrams, Horror Busters with shadow reflection did the trick. If the AI didn’t choose to willingly attack the 11/4 minion, it would’ve taken a bit longer.
This boss was a boss, but this boss wasn’t fun.
The concept seems to be against swarm and the typical abyssian cheese that gets played by other people. I THINK this boss presents a feeling of, “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” where even progressing is self-inflicting.
That’s my attempt at pinpointing.
Just for you i tryed(and succeded with) a healyonar deck with 2cycle of life as the only epic+above cards(because i know that you despise lyonar and will never craft even the most basic cards for it)
Its important to kill the sarlarcs during t1 with sunbloom

- i kinda formulated that wrong…cycle of life is the only epic+above card that is not a staple(very likely to be disenchanted by a non lyonarplayer) or useable for other factions(thunderhorn)…sorry for missstating…i simply didnt consider the possibility that one old player like you(ive seen you here since many many months)did not save 3 holy immolations throughout the personal duelyst history
This boss definitely scary. After a few attempts got lucky bad AI to win with Healonar.
Those abilities cause so much damage.
The start of turn damage does at least 2 damage. A Scintilla hardly heals anything. BBS every 2 turn for +3 but -2 over those turns. A Healing Mystic that dies instantly on enemy turn is net zero health gain (+2 -1 -1) but enemy general heals. If it lasts longer you are losing more life.
So healing spells better than healing minions.
Then the enemy has starting minions too. Smash your life down quickly. If you use minions then you lose life anyway from dying wish. Pretty much guaranteed to lose life quickly at start. Hard to rush with general when you lose so much life. You start low while boss starts high, who can heal from dying wish. Hard to stall due to start turn damage.
You redefine what it means to be a hybrid deck.
