Are Card Colours in the works, considering Shim'Zar's new abilities/Battle Pets?

With all the hype for Denizens of Shim’Zar mounting daily, I can safely say that this is an incredibly exciting time to be a part of the Duelyst community!

Soboro (3 Mana 2/4 Neutral Minion)
“Whenever this damages a neutral minion, destroy that minion.”

While reading through the as yet revealed cards I came across Soboro. What struck me about Soboro was the card text. This is quite a powerful ability and one that really relies upon knowing the neutral cards.

A lot of us are quite experienced and won’t have too much trouble knowing existing cards’ factions, but it will take us all a little time to learn which faction the new cards and Battle Pets belong to. For new players especially it’s already difficult to discern which faction cards belong to and with the addition of Battle Pets and new cards such as Soboro, it’s going to become increasingly important.

Personally I think CounterPlay are pretty on the ball and fair with most things but this is one omission that doesn’t really make sense. I understand that it can be difficult to implement with pixel art, but there are several ways to work around that limitation. It’s something that has been requested for a very long time now and these UX elements provide users, in a clear and concise way, information that is vital for new players.

So touching on a topic I know has been mentioned before on the beta forums and on reddit, does anyone have any more information on when/if we will be getting some sort of way to tell a card’s faction (be it card colour, faction emblem, whatever)?

There isn’t any info about it afaik. What we currently have are faction minions having their own distinctive color schemes and for the most part it’s working pretty well so it’s not that of an urgent issue that needs to be fixed asap. But yeah, it could defo use some work. I don’t think the current situation will affect Soboro’s playability in any way. If you don’t know what neutrals looks like you won’t put the card in your deck and even if you do it could be a fun experience to learn which cards are neutral on the fly (implying they’re one of the few ones that don’t follow the color scheme).

Personally I really like the colour schemes for faction minions. I hope one day those colour schemes are able to be carried over onto the cards. I mean at this point, I’ve gotten used to it and it doesn’t bother me as an indiividual but I think it’s definitely a feature that would benefit the less experienced.

I was more thinking for new players on the receiving end of Soboro’s attack but I guess that’s a lesson you learn fast! haha

The simplest and least invasive way to distinguish expansions / factions would probably be something like this (Shimzar cardback on edges):

Did you mock that up? it looks great. I like that, it gives the card front and the newly implemented card backs (which seem a little out of place at the moment) a bit more cohesion.

My favourite colour schemes are the ones that are reportedly in the game’s code.
Not sure if they’re still in there but Redditor ceol_ commented with some assets from the game that looked like an excellent solution. Now I think they could use a little tweaking as some of them are quite similar but it begs the question why the Devs haven’t implemented them. Maybe they’re working on an alternative

That was done in a minute or so with GIMP :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: The alternate colors you posted have been removed from the in-game assets.

That is pretty good I have always thought that they could put a class symbol in the right corner.Color edge and symbol would make it clear imo
