Anyone Drafting Rotation Proof Decks?

Hey all, just wondering if anyone’s been drafting rotation proof decks, might be a little preemptive, but as a long time MTG Standard player I thought it’d be interesting to start collecting some rotation proof decklists that function.

I’ll likely post one soon after testing, but if anyone else has some lists post below!

no. we got probably 2-3 months until the rotation hits and some of the best cards are going to be rotated out and a lot of combos nerfed.

some real auto include stuff being lost that will practically kill the factions when rotated
falcius, katara, aspect of shim’zar, thumping wave

creep is going to have to be completely reworked with the loss of ooz, klaxon, obliterate and sphere. maehv is going to die when gnasher gets rotated out.

the loss of crescent spear is really going to hurt artifact and spell songhai. and minionhai is going to miss battle pando and ki beholder.

afterblaze and lucent beam will be lost right when they’ve finally found a place for themselves. no more sun wisp for swarm decks.

vet players will lament the loss of the whispers and allomancer in obelysk decks and psychic conduit in sabotage decks

ragnora is going to lose nearly all of his egg support (morin khur, lava lance, wild inceptor) and gromar is losing moloki

vanar loses some win conditions (winters wake, wailing overdrive)

there are just too many cards that are essential to competitive decks being rotated out. to draft a rotation proof deck is the same as not wanting to climb the ladder.

Not much point since rotation wont happen until the next set. Wait til rotation actually happens, then try out whatever decks you want. Same as any expansion release.

Burn horn is completely safe from the rotation

Without knowing what the new expansion brings this seems to be futile.

An easy example can be taken from SV as they just introduced rotation, all the best decks are the ones that lose the least.

That’s still not saying anything. Only a lot of could bes and maybes.

This is an almost entirely rotation-proof deck I’ve been building, just as an exercise. Tried to recreate it from memory here, might have replaced a Nat Select or two but can’t remember. The only card being lost if Lava Lance iirc which is easily replaced with Upper Hand which I was considering doing anyway.

Works very well, most of the game is spent playing the minions on curve while waiting for the combo pieces to line up. Raptyr , when placed out of reach of more than one threat acts as pseudo-removal and threatens a lot of damage early on, making the opponent wary of close-quarters engagements.

Use the space it gives you to try placing an Egg near enough to reach the General with one movement when it hatches, but far enough away so that it is not easily reached. If you’re lucky you can get the GF/Gazer + Ripper combo off early, but don’t put all your effort into forcing the combo when there are better plays to be made.

Usually your endgame consists of an Egg Morph, Greater Fortitude or Gazer combo to deal 10 burst damage in the endgame.

This deck does not make use of Morin-Khur or Inceptor, but still has a very high success rate thanks to the stronger curve that these omissions provide, meaning a more consistent board presence and better midgame.

I’m aware that a lot of the best cards are leaving, just thought it’d be a fun exercise for the forum I guess. Oh well, guess I’ll just switch back to MTGO because apparently this fun exercise was futile.

No point in building rotation proof decks when the next expansion will change the meta and top decks
