Any tips for getting into that next division?

Just wondering if anyone/everyone has any tips they’d like to share for things that they have done to get to the next division. Doesn’t matter if this gets you from Bronze to Silver, Silver to Gold, Gold to Diamond, etc, what are some general changes that you’ve made in your playstyle that has assisted in getting in to that next bracket.

I am looking for tips myself, but believe that many players would benefit from any advice. I was playing MTG in high school, then moved to Hearthstone, and on to Duelyst now (played for about 2 weeks) and was struggling in Silver Tier until i really started learning the deck curves, and then I almost immediately leap-frogged through 5 ranks in no time at all. I now find myself on the cusp of gold now and then but then drop back and kind of tether in the same spot, so looking for that next leap.

So what tips do you have for me (or any player) to help improve their game. I myself am personally interested in potential positioning tips, along with general styles, deckbuilding curve, etc etc.

Don’t be discouraged by losing. That is the most important thing.

I’m just diamond so i’m not a pro but here are my advices :

  • Don’t play too much. Take breaks. Playing too long sessions will reduce your concentration. This is very very important.

  • Try to find a deck your comfortable with. And try not to change when you ladder. Playing 3/4 different decks won’t do any good to your laddering.

  • Keep playing. Skill comes with knowledge and experience. During the 2 first months i played i was silver. Then the 2 next i went gold and i laddered to Diamond the last 2 months. The more you play the better you get.

  • Come to the forum reguraly. You’ll see decks, tips, informations about the meta etc.

  • Don’t hesitate to ask questions on the Discord or here 'Like you’re doing)

  • Use sites like http://managlow.com/

  • Watch games of S-Rank / Diamond. You could learn some cool moves.

  • Don’t care too much about winning. At the beginning you should focus on collecting a lot of cards.

  • And have fun  It’s a game after all !

Like @zykprod said and yes the watch feature is a great tool to see what’s popular in the Meta as well as your own replays of your loses check to see where you misplayed or missed lethal :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing:

Grind is the most important part, and annoying as well, when it comes to the ladder. Just play as many games as you can and remember when fixing up your deck the golden rule of 3 strikes. If the card doesn’t prove useful in 3 games either drop it down 1/2 or remove it completely. Play a deck you’re comfortable with, not something that is gimmicky.

Midrange/Tempo rules this game very strongly so try to avoid Control decks and focus more on a deck that relies on getting board then answering it or just going face. If you have a budget cut, some great cards to fix up your deck in any struggle are Healing Mystic for sustain issues, Bloodtear for early game curves/artifact issues, Maw for removal issues, Shroud for lack of dispels. Trust me on this one, when I first started I saw these cards as mediocre since I came from a HS background where the neutral basic cards are very mediocre while these on here are actually extremely powerful even at the top ranks.

I personally recommend Magmar as he uses these very well and you only really need Taygete (which requires x3 of each magmar rare anyway to get so just keep Egg Morph, Harvester, Flash, etc) and Makantor warbeast to do well. Also Sojourner is a great card if you find draw an issue.

Also, one important thing I personally have only learned when I was playing at Diamond/verge of S rank (Finished my first season trying and not playing casually at rank 1) was card advantage is extremely important. Just because your enemy hasn’t played anything doesn’t mean you should over commit to the board sometimes. If the minion doesn’t need to be developed or has an immediate impact when you play it, hold onto it. Don’t use up all your steam only to get answered in one turn to allow them to have tempo swings.
