Ancient Bonds Day 5 Abyssian: Death Knell

this card is a one time board dump that requires other arcanysts having been played and died, variax is a sustained army that has no prior deck or board requirements. they are both strong late game threats, but dont really overlap. you could even play both in the same deck if you thought you could survive long enough. you can rush out variax with no consequences. you cant rush out death knell without already having lost a huge early game board of arcanysts already.

The main difference between this and Grandmaster Variax is the fact that you get your other minions immediately, which is what I think could justify this as a late game threat.

I just made a typing error and corrected it, soooo you’ve been duped by mistake.

The only clash is it’s pace of impact to the game. This card’s effect takes use one turn sooner than Variax, which matters. They are different yes, but this provides a quicker alternative (albeit different deck). Variax is just too slow.

Well nvm then, she’s a beautiful baby girl. I guess I’m okay with more potential waifus

For got to note that circle of dessication must be used more often now

But I thought, lore-wise, all Abyssians are female? Weren’t the male Abyssians reduced to what we know as Serpenti (may they forever be known in our hearts)?

Why use circle of desiccation if they can easily bring back the whole army on their next turn?

Multiple circle of dessications

Oh, I see you want to spam circle nonstop until they run out of Death Knells. Might as well tech in Alcuin Loremaster just in case .

If there is ever a card that makes a minion immune to spell effects or transforms them into a structure temporarily like pandamonium, we WILL see the rise of circle of dessication if for no reason but memes.

I might have misread this, but it should be noted that if you bring back a Death Knell with a second one, it will NOT activate any Opening Gambit effects since they only trigger when played from your action bar. The second Death Knell would bring back any of your arcanysts that had died, including the other Death Knell, but the other Death Knell would not bring anything else with it.

This is actually one of the biggest balancing factors of this card, imo. Alcuin and Lightbender are two powerful Arcanysts that will not gain any benefit from Death Knell aside from being free bodies (and Abjudicator, too). We’ll have to see what other arcanysts this set has to offer as well.

So far, I like this card. It’s a great way to instantly reclaim board presence. You’re almost always guaranteed your mana’s worth when you play this card.

3 Arcanysts die

Use Knell

3 back to life and have Knell

Opponent wipes resulting in 3 Arcanysts to die AGAIN (as well as Knell)

Use another Knell

Original copies resummoned for a second time, the resummoned guys are resummoned and finally the original Knell plus her new sister calling them all from the graveyard

Ah, I see. So you’re counting the resurrected arcanysts as new cards, thus you’re getting the first copies AND the killed second copies when you play the second Death Knell?

We’ll have to see how the game interprets the resurrected minions. I’'m thinking it won’t work this way, since the text doesn’t say “copies,” it’s referring directly to the previous cards. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m right. Like I said, I think we’ll have to wait and see.

I hope I’m not still misunderstanding you, lol

o_O Well that was fast. Didn’t think they’d make something more reliable, but with a lower ceiling than Variax so quickly. For reference, guys- this guy sees every other Death Knell that died, Loremasters, Owls, Lightbenders, etc. Possibly a strong reason to play Sun Seer at last. Excited to see if this spawns Abyssian decks that build around The Scientist (think about it, and then proceed to vomit all over.)

The scientist requires you to use a spell on something,You don’t have worry about the Scientist being use in Abyss the spell are too expensive there is reason it is only really used in Lyonar and Songhai then really just Kaleos and Argeon
