You don’t want that, believe me, you don’t
Ancient Bonds Day 11 Songhai: Joseki
This is how you lose dedicated players.
Releasing cards like this as part of expan. Alongside the egg golem of magmar or the everykeyword possible golem of lyonar. the two already brainless factions.
been here since alpha, losing my motivation to play.
Maybe the reason of lost motivation may also be because you’re here since alpha
Or maybe overreacting
my logic says that expan. Should work for balance and a new ways to add depth to the game.
in the last expan. Songhai got dumpstered hard, i made no changed to my deck whatsoever…
Now songhai got a 7 mana draw engine 3/7, when you’re already going for the kill.
What’s the point of creating an even wider gap between factions. How many kaleos have you seen on s rank or vespyr decks? almost none this is where balance should be created.
80% of the decks you’re facing are lyonar or magmar, control faie sometimes too(which is my favorite).
That’s it.
@mathspy
It’s not 0 mana and the difference is critical.
0 mana cantrip means being abused and can be played regardless if you have mana or not for that turn. Mixed in with Alcuin would cause headaches.
By keeping the card 1 mana but reducing the drawn card’s mana by 1 in essence makes the card cost 0, but still requires the initial mana.
0 mana card’s can be played forever. You can’t play a 1 mana card that draws a X-1 mana card forever.
Honestly, something like this would be both thematic and a fair buff for Starhorn.
“Make songhai shit again”
So the only songhai card of this expansion that Will be playable is the artifact. Just like in rotb the only decent cards were obscuring blow and ethereal blades. 3 cards playable in two entire expansions. Cmon…
That’s definitely an overstatement. Calligrapher and Kindling have potential for sure.
Calligrapher is garbage because you are paying 7 mana to draw 3 random spells at the end of your turn. Imagine if you draw Shadow waltz, joseki and mana vortex…
Kindling is decent but you need to have at least 1 or 2 arcanyst on the board already. It works likes owl Beast wich again is something but its not good.
How exactly? It’s 7 mana so no killing edge…
Beside say you deployed it.
Rushing unit —> got killing edge —+> no mana to cast.
turn 8 it’s probably going to eats a heavy fat dispel.
Say you got inner focus, at turn 7 is you still need your inner focus that bad you might just concede.
The only cards you might want to get are juxta, mds or the 8 mana fat finisher.
Kindling will be good assuming it’s not getting dispeled right away, and it will… you better believe it.
I think the underlying problem is that tempo argeon is just too oppressive that it makes the design space for all other factions quite tight including songhai. Calligrapher on its own is awesome in my opinion but it becomes garbage when you start thinking “will this help me survive against lyonar?”. the balance in this game is the issue.
I agree that lyonar is too oppressive right now. But the problem of calligrapher is not lyonar, is the fact that It draws random cards
expansions are not about printing cards to improve current decks, its about printing cards to make new deck archtypes work. Why not instead of thinking about how you can put these new cards into your current deck, you think about what kind of decks these cards can enable.
Also i think your wrong about what you see in S rank, it’s pretty diverse, there all the vet mains plus reva shows up a lot. Even Kaleos sometimes. I know for a fact that rank 1 is a swarm abyss deck rn.
that artefact is garbage.
only weird decks built around it could use it.
I wish its like xho though where the mana cost is reduced by one. It makes you give an incentive of playing the spells despite it not useful but just for arcanyst combos
I’ve already given this card some shit, but if I’m honest, I love it. Fun and interesting cards like this make the game fun for me.
Songhai NEEDS something new to change their meta decks and this card certainly isn’t that, but it will be a blast to fool around with, and I’m glad it’s going to be in the game.
Dear Ryvirath
Because you are developer so I hope my message can reach you and Counterplay. As Songhai players, we are nerf continuously in 2 recent expansions.
Well, If Songha can’t not burst damage it means death for Songhai. Two cards (Inner Focus and Mana Vortex) can trigger many combos for both Arcanyst as well as assassin decks. Counterpaly give Songhai new Arcanyst minions but took the key cards (Core card) to active it.
Now Songhai lost it’s tempo. Please listen your customer’s suggestion because we love Duelyst.
instead of being stuck on how you think songhai should work, what about going out of your comfort zone and try a different version of songhai that don’t rely on burst damage? there’s quite a lot of those.
also i have tried songai a few times after the nerf, frankly speaking innerfocus nerf only affects me in 1 out of 4 games.
I agree, MVortex and IF gave very bad habits to some Songhai players.
Some times ago, it was so easy to go Mask then gazillions spells, follow with a just invoked Chakri on steroid going rush to finish the job.
Shame, shame, shame.
Now these guys have to think out of the box and I’m happy with it, there are so many other things to do in Songhai different than those that steamrolled on ladder for past seasons.
(and yes, I consider myself as a Songhai player too)
