Here it is, the deck no one’s been waiting for!
I’ve wanted to try something crazy with Abyssian for a while now, especially since it’s my least played faction, but all of my prior ideas fell flat. However, this deck has actually done fairly well (granted it still has a relatively small sample size). It features a lot of core set cards (hence the deck name), and works to bring them into the modern meta with the help of cards from more recent expansions. The card of focus was our wonderful friend, Deepfire Devourer. Especially in Lilithe, this minion seemed like it could be a large threat given the right support. This deck actually has a lot of synergies geared towards making this minion shine.
- Standard BBS into Devourer for 8/8 on 5 mana
- Use wraithlings from Vorpal Reaver’s Dying Wish to get bigger
- Steal enemy minion with Mindlathe, then use it to buff Devourer, denying your opponent their minion in the process
- Daemonic Lure to set up frenzies (yes, this minion has Frenzy if you didn’t know)
It truly has been the star of the deck. It’s gotten me most of my wins, which makes me very proud.
The viability of the deck is still uncertain (again, small sample size), but if nothing else, it’s been a lot of fun using this deck. Walking the thin line between meme and ladder-worthy, I’d recommend it if you’re looking to have a little off-meta fun!
