funny thing is, i found myself playing the primus shieldmaster over dioltas in general. i think the shieldmaster has won me waaay more games than dioltas ever did.
3 losses in total to s rank with argeon
Dioltas is an annoying card, mainly due to the 0/10 tombstone with provoke it leaves behind. Since it limits where you can freely move and with it having 10 health it takes a while to remove through minion/general attacks which gives time to the person who plays it. While it also always spawns nearby the general which also makes finishing the game off harder with minions, as your likely to have to fight through its 10 health. Its just more dangerous in Lyonar because of divine bond which can make it a 10/10 with provoke. But I have seen Dioltas used in Abyssian to delay people in order to lay down more shadow creep or summon the swarm to beat people over.
As for the deck, I’m interested in how well Stormblade did within the deck. I’ve thought about crafting her a couple of times but I’ve not seen her in action to know how good she is.
Wesson, ehh? I generally go “ah fork, not this again” when I run into Aregon, but that IGN conjures some more painful memories than the usual Lyonar aggro.
Keep up the good work!
this was the first time for me using elix stormblade and i was pleasantly surprised. the extra mobility helps to close out drawn-out games or pick off annoying targets in defensive positions. I don’t think I would want to run more than 1 copy in this deck but who knows
personally i liked her very much in this deck
hey
i remember our match, gg.
thank you for the kind words! hope i get to play you again
Interesting, looks like I’ll have to craft her one day then. Also congrats on the climb to S-Rank with the deck.
Thanks for this share! Saving this for after getting my Magmar ribbon.

I haven’t played much Lyonar, but i decided to give it a go. I missed only Elyx and Ironcliffe Guardians and i have lots of spare dust, so why the hell not. I was pleasantly surprised, this deck rips apart through everything.
glad its been working out for you
This deck surprised me man, works like clockwork
Nice job putting this tougher.
Do you have any other decklists that i can test out? Ty
if you are looking for competitive decks not really
i’m not a competitive player.
this deck was more like an accident because i wanted to get s rank quick with my alt account.
if you just wanna goof around, there’s a arcanyst/spellhai kaleos deck i posted somewhere in the forum.
How do you play it?
I read the comments and tyed it myself, so far way less than 50% win rate. Way too slow, gets eaten alive by aggro, no 0-1 mana minions so can’t get holly immulation plays before 6 mana, even after 9 mana turns it has no burst compred to other factions. ironcliffs and other big minions just get removed/transformed haven’t had a chance to play divine bond once in 16+ games.
Welcome to Lyonar – the fairest of the fair factions. =D
Most of the time it’s about building your board while (ideally) going for pressure or (less ideally) value trades. One of the best situations you can find yourself in is to be able to attack the opposing general with your minions on your turn while he has to to trade his minions into yours to stave off death on his turn. Because, as you said, Lyonar has very little in terms of burst or reach. Every minion needs to chip away at the opponent 's life points while also trading with their minions, or else you’ll find yourself quickly out of cards while the opposing general is still at a healthy life total.
So overall strategy advice: try to pressure your opponent as much as possible. Force him to go for unfavourable plays. Make him react to your plays instead of you reacting to his. And don’t just go for value trades clearing the board every turn. That will rarely result in a win. Lyonar is trash-tier when it comes to playing the long game. They don’t have much in terms of removal, they lack good card draw and – most importantly – they have no inevitable late game (like Thumping Wave + Rush, Obliterate, BBS that goes face, etc.).
The new Spelljammer perfectly embodies what Lyonar wants in a card: it fights well, it poses a threat that needs to be answered and its effect usually gets you ahead in terms of cards while still being able to attack the opposing general. Nothing more satisfying than watching your opponent remove your Spelljammer on his turn after you have drawn cards off of him and gotten a punch or two in.
And yeah, once you hit Diamond, you’ll rarely be able to Divine Bond anything.
I have an aggro lyonar deck that works fine, not too impressive but can get around 50% win rate. Looking to improve it, i gess lyonar get buffs in expansion so should be much easyer.
just was curious how it’s possible to get to s rank with this deck yet alone with few loses. Apparently i have no idea how to play this or what the win condition is, divine bond just seems too situational, low draw, no magnetize to try cheesing divine bond ironcliff from other corner of the map. Pretty low ranged removal so gets kited easily… without early holly immulation or cheap minions contesting tempo is very hard. Many decks now run excessive removal, magmar 6+ transform and 3 makantors, vanar lots of removal as well. Other lyonar are usually faster and just get tempo advantage. Abyssians don’t die early as this is no aggro deck and usual revenant spam is stronger burst than this deck has to offer.
Ps. Been in diamond for a few seasons now, at the moment stayed at rank 5 to try new decks out when the expansion hits. Been trying new decks for a few days for factions i play less or my decks for got outdated.
Not sure why this hasn’t been mentioned, but you play dioltas for two reasons in bond lyonar. The primary reason is because the spawn is a 0/10 that your opponent now HAS to play around or they run the risk of taking 10 dmg to the face the following turn. The second is that it is morph/dispel bait. The less removal your opponent has for your cliffes the better. Also there is a reason this is the best deck in the format currently so it comes as no surprise that the deck performed well on ladder. That said, only 3 losses is really something given that day one of the seasons most of the people who tried to climb with the list averaged around a 65-70% win rate.
thanks for the explanation. i always had a hard time figuring out the right time to play out dioltas over other minions.
about the 3 losses though i do feel like i got incredibly lucky
I think its a flexible card slot. what other cards are you considering to replace elyx?
against abyssian she can be used as a moderate counter against demonic lure and an extra big threat against songhai/lyonar. also helps a lot in reaching high priority targets played defensively (e.g. heartseekers). or it just straight up helps you chase down enemies running away from all the pressure.
i am not very familiar with lyonar so i just included cards that helps me make very straightforward plays. but i definitely think elyx can be swapped out for a card that suits your playstyle more.
I usually put Archon Spellbinder here. Pretty annoying in the late game for any faction.
